Stay Dead Evolution [Review]
Stay Dead Evolution is a fighting game developed by the italian company Brucefilm.
There isn't really a story to the game: you play as generic action hero number 21 who kicks and punches bad guys. The end.
When I started playing, I was literally laughing at how easy it was. You press three arrow keys to attack or defend, defending on which prompt appears. While simple at first, the harder the game gets, smaller and faster the prompts are. When you miss a prompt, the enemy parries or counters your attack. The round is won when your enemy has no energy left. You can achieve a humiliating victory by hitting the enemy seven times without getting hit: that will unlock a triple combo against that character. The game has an addictive quality to it.
As you probably noticed by watching the video, the game is made entirely of FMVs, just like in the good old days. I must admit that the fight choreography feels like that of an actual fighting game, with the characters always jumping around in their fighting stance.
The only problem with this game is the lack of content: there are only four opponents to fight and four difficulty levels, as well as three aesthetics: Modern Days, 90s Look and 80s Look. The latter two, while fun at first, make the game even harder to play.
The music is pretty generic, with the exception of the one that plays during the fight with Dagon.
Overall, this is the most original fighting game after Divekick, featuring increasingly challenging combat, good coreography and okay music but a lack of content. I recommend it to fighting games fans and to someone who's looking for something different.
