Hatred is an isometric shooter developed and published by Destructive Creations, and has become famous due to the violent nature of the game.

STORY

The story isn't deep and neither serious, paying homage to multiple exploitation movies of the 80s. You play as the Antagonist, a man who hates humanity and decides to commit mass murder until he dies. The dialogue is mostly said by the Antagonist, and is either painfully dumb or hilariously cheesy. This game is not meant to be taken seriously.

GRAPHICS

Using the Unreal Engine 4, the game looks good and has great destruction. Unfortunately, the performance is very poor, the environments look bland due to the black-and-white style and the NPCs are not much varied.

GAMEPLAY

You go around and shoot people. The end.

All joking aside, your goal is to go to points of interest and kill everyone that you find in the surprisingly huge levels. You can use three weapons at a time (ranging from pistols to flamethrowers) and three types of grenade as well as gasoline tanks and whatnot scattered around the environment. You can also drive some vehicles, but they usually destroy after a few shots. If a person falls to the ground and doesn't die, you can execute him/her in order to regain health. The animations tend to get repetitive and annoying, but you can disable them in the options. The A.I. isn't even all that smart, with civilians casually strolling by while you are stomping someone's head on the ground.

The concept is repetitive, and if what you have read might keep you entertained, than buy this game. Otherwise it's not for you.

CHALLENGE

The game is challenging thanks to the high number of police officers. You will mostly likely die because of explosions, getting run over by a car or simply not executing someone. The order difficulties tend to make the make more entertaining, while still not being too frustrating and impossible.

SOUND

Most of the sound effects are fine, but the music isn't all that memorable. The voice acting is cheesy and the music lends itself to the nature of the game, with a hard-rock soundtrack that fits the gameplay but isn't all that great outside of it.

REPLAYABILITY

A total of 7 levels, 42 achievements, mod support and possible DLC make this a game playable once or twice in its current state. There are some secrets in the areas that you explore, but nothing worthile.

Much ado about nothing. This game will be forgotten in a few months and we will all look back and laugh at how everyone overreacted. The game is a good time-waster, not that different from something like 1997's Postal or going on a mindless rampage in GTA. If you like the genre, you'll have a blast playing this.
